FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT VEHICLES SERVICES

Your MOT test will be due either on its 3rd anniversary since registration or every year after the date of the last MOT. Recent law changes now mean some older vehicles don’t require an MOT anymore. You can now use the government website to set up a text reminder service for your next MOT. Your vehicle can undergo MOT testing one month and one day before its due. If you don’t have a valid MOT then you could be fined up to £1000.

At Vantage Auto Services, we can MOT any type of vehicle, from cars to vans and everything in between. No matter what make or model of vehicle you might have, we can MOT it.

It is advisable that you have your car serviced every twelve months or 12,000 miles; this is usually decided based on which comes first. Car users with high usage and those who drive many miles in a year might consider an interim service every six months or 6000 miles.

The recommended tyre pressure will depend on the type of car you have and its model. Most newer cars have a sticker on the inside of the driver or passenger door and this will tell you the recommended psi of both the front and back tyres. If it isn’t on the door, then you can always refer to the car manual. Most psi ratings will be between 32 psi and 35 psi.

A good set of tyres can last for up to 25,000 miles. Some older cars or vehicles that are only driven occasionally will last a lot longer in terms of tyres; so it is recommended to change your tyres every 10 years, regardless of the tread. Tyres should have a minimum 1.6mm of tread depth, anything below this will mean your tyres need replacing.

If your brakes are squeaking or making a loud grinding sound, then it is likely either the brake discs or pads need replacing. We can assess your brakes to see what work is required and whether it’s a repair or replacement that is required.

This is entirely down to personal preference and understanding the difference between summer and winter tyres will make it easier for you to make a decision. The three main difference between summer and winter tyres are their structure, rubber compound and tread pattern. Summer tyres harden in cold temperatures, whereas winter tyres perform better in temperatures that are below 7 degrees Celcius.

The cost to repair your car will depend on the issue it’s suffering from and if any spare parts are needed. We price all car repairs on an independent basis to ensure our customers receive the best possible car repair quote.

Yes! When it comes to dents and scratches, it all depends on how serious the damage is and whether the existing bodywork can be repaired or if new parts are needed. Some minor dents and scratches can be repaired easily and with the right tools. If you’ve had a more serious impact then it could require a replacement part.

When a dashboard warning light comes on, it’s usually the sign of an issue and is designed to make you aware of the problem because it causes further damage to the car. The check engine light is one of the most common dashboard lights to come on and this is managed by the engine control unit (ECU). If you have an engine light on your dashboard, then it’s always best to get it checked out by a professional mechanic.
